Problems & Solutions
-
The production of artificial snow has become a major concern for winter sports resorts.
A good coverage of snow is key to getting the season off to a good start. -
Snowfall has become too unreliable as a result of climate change. The start of the season is especially affected by this decline in snowfall and results in a drop in visitors, as was experienced during Christmas 2015 and 2016.
-
Water resources in mountain regions are complex. To make artificial snow, resorts have to use the reserves and their mountain reservoirs to their maximum, and only use drinking water as a last resort.
-
In addition, there has to be enough water available of the right quality and temperature at the correct time in order to supply the snow cannons. What solutions exist for producing increased amounts of good quality artificial snow when weather conditions are not ideal?
-
The team at AQUAGO have studied this problem in pilot resorts and have put forward different technical solutions that allow more snow to be produced which is of better quality, which use less energy and which result in financial gain.

Thanks to the effect of the SUBMIX SNOW, water can be delivered from mountain reservoirs at the optimal temperature. It is possible to produce nearly twice as much snow with the same volume of water earlier in the season and for longer. All this can be done on a smaller budget compared to existing technology (e.g. bubble aeration).
